When words lose their meaning, people lose their freedom.
Confucius

Have you ever realized that many of the familiar terms we use, have changed their meaning in a fashion that hardly corresponds with the content that we actually wanted to express? Are you aware of the impact this abuse of language has on the media, the political discourse, let alone our daily routine? These are «Semantic Traps».

To better understand the implications of words and phrases in public policy debates, the Liechtenstein Academy Foundation in co-operation with Unitelma Sapienza organized a conference entitled «Semantic traps. Politics with loaded terms» on 15 June 2017 in Rome.

This was the kick-off event for the joint online-course «Understanding How Society Works. An Introduction the the Austrian School of Economics», starting in late fall of 2017. Before an interested audience of students, administrators and politicians, leading international scholars discussed and examined how these ‘Weasel-Words’ threaten both liberty and economic prosperity.

We are much looking forward to a prospering cooperation with our partner Unitelma Sapienza. For more information on our initiatives regarding Austrian Economics please visit us at www.ae-laf.com.
